Rollyo

I've created a search roll of a few sites I use regularly when looking for information about books including Amazon, Angus and Robertson, Dymocks, Readings and Fantastic Fiction. (See the link I have set up). There is plenty of potential for using this, particularly for harder to find things.

Library Thing

I've put a few of my favourites into Library thing. They can be found at http://www.librarything.com/catalog/gillb1

Some of the classics had been recommended by thousands of people but I was surprised that nobody else had chosen some of the titles I had, even though they were Australian books.

At the moment the list just scatches the surface. I will add some more soon.

Technology - A Few Thoughts

I had thought I was reasonably familiar with search for information on the Internet, but the range of new technologies is amazing. It certainly has come a long way in a short period of time.

It also is a lot more personal. As a private person, I am not sure that I would be posting information about myself for everyone to see. Also the traditional way of evaluating information is being challenged: as librarians we were taught how to evaluate the accuracy of information. Now news is updated almost instantly and anybody can have an opinion about it. We need to be careful in maintaining the quality of information we provide when there are so many extra sources available.

RSS Feeds

Well, I've had a go at creating a bloglines account and found it easy enough to subscibe to RSS feeds including ABC news, BBC news and Cricinfo (cricket scores!). However I couldn't find where to get the public URL for this so I can't post a link to it here.

This is Fred. Fred's talents include eating, sleeping and waking people up in the middle of the night. However he can be very friendly when he feels like it.

My First Post

It's getting close to the end of a busy week, so I can't think of much to say now. I'm just dreaming that the mighty Richmond Tigers will be up there in September. (Perhaps it would be more realistic to dream of them winning a game).
